Interesting.

Sat Jul 22, 2006, 8:44 PM
I've noticed that a lot of my works are written about the self, not even in a metaphoric fashion but literally. I guess I have a little fixation with how we bathe in our own self-absorbed pools. I'm subconsciously justifying my own selfishness, most likely. There's no use in trying to hide it. Every one tends to look out for their own interests. Nothing wrong with that, right? But I feel like I give into to that pestering notion too often, because I don't want to become another greedy shifty-eyed pig. The world has plenty already and that's not who I am.

But when you think about it, art is all about the self. Think about every poem you've ever read, every song you've ever heard, every painting you've ever studied or actor you've ever seen. They were all created and motivated out of a personal need; the self. It's all about the artist, all about their feelings, all about objective. What do I want? How do I benefit from this? Where will this get me? From this perspective, art seems pretty damn ugly. But it's not ugly. It's not wrong to create something that you feel is right and personally coherent.

Hell, I don't even have much of a point here. I just felt like blabbering. Nighty night.
